For people already displaced by conflict and violence, climate change is an emergency on top of an emergency.
In 2019, a staggering 1,900 weather-related disasters caused unimaginable suffering for 25 million people in 140 countries and territories.
Disasters are intensifying. Wildfires, flooding and droughts are wiping out homes, disrupting food security and destroying livelihoods. Almost all of the world’s refugees and internally displaced people come from countries that are the most vulnerable and least ready to adapt to climate change.
Your compassion can make a difference. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency is on the ground protecting families and helping to support, prevent, prepare and build resilience in the face of this emergency. But we need support from compassionate people like you to keep making a difference.
Add your name to USA for UNHCR’s petition to demand governments urgently promote measures to combat climate change and prevent the increase in forced displacement and the growing vulnerabilities of those already forced to flee. The human cost of inaction is too great. Raise your voice. We cannot afford to wait. Sign here >>
