Recently, we’ve seen some of the most powerful storms to ever make landfall. From winter storms in Lebanon that flooded refugee camps to cyclones that destroyed entire communities in Mozambique. People are losing their homes to these extreme storms. The impact of climate change is being felt around the world and more people are being forced to flee for safety.
"We were fighting for our lives in the darkness. The walls of the houses were just falling down." — Antonio, Cyclone Idai survivor
Thousands of families like Antonio’s have lost their homes to extreme weather, leaving them without the shelter, food, clean water and medical care they need.
The UN Refugee Agency is on the ground providing emergency shelter and care so families can rebuild their lives. The survivors need immediate help.
Climate change is reducing the amount of food and clean water available, leaving more people vulnerable to disease and malnutrition. Climate change can also intensify violent conflicts as people compete for scarce resources forcing more people to flee.
